Welcome to the Steel Curtain Network
Let’s rewind to January 2023. It was a shock when my colleague, Bryan Anthony Davis, received an email from our former employer announcing that our podcast platform would no longer be supported in a month. While we didn’t have to stop, we were informed that we could no longer receive any financial reimbursement for our work.
To say we were taken aback would be an understatement.
But as I’ve learned throughout my life, adversity isn’t something to dwell on. There’s no value in self-pity. Instead, I focused on planning for the future. We had built such a loyal following on our podcast platform that it was clear we needed to keep going. But where could we go next?
After several meetings with different platforms, we decided to offer the same opportunity to others who had received the same email. What if we could create a new home for everyone who was left hanging?
Thankfully, we were introduced to Ken Wisnefski, a savvy businessman who, after a couple of lengthy conversations, was eager to be a part of this project. The project required significant work, including rebranding.
Thus, Steel Curtain Network was born!
But what should we call this new network that would host NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, NCAA, and soccer feeds?
Enter Fans First Sports Network!
Our vision has always been to make FFSN much bigger than just a place for podcast feeds. I had also hoped to grow SCN into something monumental. Little did I know that the email we received in January wasn’t the end, but rather the start of an incredible opportunity for many people.
As they say, when one door closes, another opens.
For those of you who’ve followed my work at SB Nation, you know that over the years we’ve built a strong team of writers. What I didn’t anticipate was that FFSN would provide an opportunity not just for me, but for the entire team of writers.
I am incredibly grateful to welcome all of you to the Steel Curtain Network, where you’ll find familiar faces like Dave Schofield, K.T. Smith, Bryan Anthony Davis, Shannon White, Tony Defeo, Andrew Wilbar, Jeremy Betz, Bradley Locker, and even Michael Beck.
While not every team member has joined us at FFSN, we’re proud of the incredible work we’re building here in our new home.
For those familiar with our work at SB Nation, know that we’re committed to evolving our site here at FFSN and SCN. The comment section will remain, and we’ll be launching an app to make reading our content even more convenient. In terms of content approach, expect a shift. We’re focusing on quality over quantity. The great content you’ve come to expect will continue, but with less aggregation and more original content directly from our talented team of writers.
To be honest, it’s thrilling to even say that. We’re not here to compete with aggregators anymore; our goal is to be the best source of original content for Pittsburgh Steelers fans everywhere, whether through podcasts or written articles.
