What I Like About the 2024 Cleveland Browns Schedule

Last Wednesday, the NFL released the highly anticipated 2024 schedule, and Cleveland Browns fans were eager to see how the season would unfold. We already knew that the season opener would be a thrilling home game against the Dallas Cowboys, kicking off at 4:25 p.m. This matchup also marks Tom Brady’s debut as a broadcaster on Fox, adding even more excitement to the opening game. But this was just one of the aspects of the schedule that I found appealing. There are several other things I like about it.

For one, starting the season at home with a nationally televised game is always a positive for any team. It gives the Browns a great opportunity to quiet any doubts about their potential. Another highlight is that the Browns won’t face any divisional opponents until Week 7, when they host the Bengals. This is a smart scheduling move because it allows the team to build momentum in the first few weeks. It usually takes 3 to 5 weeks for a team to start firing on all cylinders, and with four out of the first six games being against non-conference teams, the Browns have room to work through any early-season issues. They play Dallas in Week 1, the New York Giants in Week 3, Washington in Week 5, and Philadelphia in Week 6. Losses in these games won’t hurt playoff positioning as much. The two conference games in the first six weeks (Week 2 at Jacksonville and Week 4 at Las Vegas) aren’t divisional matchups either, meaning there’s less pressure in those early road games to fine-tune their offense.

This extended time before divisional play could allow the Browns to iron out any issues with their new offense. It could also mean that reinforcements may arrive by Week 7, especially with rumors suggesting that star running back Nick Chubb could be back by then. His return would be a huge boost for the offense, and the timing couldn’t be better, as the Browns’ schedule doesn’t get any easier in the last six weeks of the season.

That’s one of the drawbacks of the 2024 schedule—the later part of the season is packed with tough games that will test the Browns’ resilience as they push toward the playoffs.
